A free alternative to Syrinscape
If you like what Syrinscape does but not the monthly bill, here is an honest comparison. Written by the person who built the other one, so read it with that in mind.
The short version. Syrinscape and D&D Audio Mixer solve the same problem from opposite ends. Syrinscape sells you a library: thousands of professionally produced, officially licensed sounds for D&D and Pathfinder, ready to play the moment you open it. D&D Audio Mixer sells you nothing. It is a free app that layers and crossfades audio you already have, whether that is music you own, ambience you downloaded, or a track pulled from YouTube.
So the question is not which app is better. It is which half of the job you want done for you. If you want to open something and immediately have a dragon fight scored, Syrinscape is the better tool and worth paying for. If you already have music you like and just want to mix it into scenes without a subscription, D&D Audio Mixer does that free, offline, on Mac and Windows.

Where Syrinscape is the better buy
This is worth saying plainly, because a comparison that only flatters its author is not worth reading.
- The library is the product, and it is very good. Thousands of sounds built by professional sound designers. You do not have to find, trim, or balance any of it.
- Official licensed content. Real D&D and Pathfinder adventures, scored scene by scene to match what your party is walking into. Nothing free replicates that.
- It runs on phones and tablets. D&D Audio Mixer does not. If you run games from an iPad, this decision is already made for you.
- Community soundsets. A large shared pool of scenes other people have already built.
If any of those matter to you, pay for it. It is a good product and it earns the subscription.
Where D&D Audio Mixer is the better fit
- It is free, with no tier above it. No trial, no account, no upsell, no feature held back.
- Music you already own works immediately. Drop in your own files and layer them. This is the whole point of the app rather than a feature on the top plan.
- Nothing is uploaded. No servers, no sync, no account. Your library sits on your machine.
- Pull straight from YouTube. Paste a link, trim to the part you want, and it is in your library ready to loop.
- Real mixing controls. Stack as many looping tracks as you like, give each its own volume and mute, and crossfade between scenes with no dead air and a fade length you set.
So which one
Pick Syrinscape if
You would rather pay than curate. You want a finished, licensed library that sounds professional on night one, and you run games from a phone or tablet.
Pick D&D Audio Mixer if
You already have music you like, or you enjoy building the mood yourself, and you would rather not pay a subscription for something you use at a kitchen table once a week.
Plenty of DMs end up using both. There is no rule against keeping a subscription for the licensed adventure audio and mixing your own playlists for everything else.
